Dear Pam Hoffman,

Congratulations! You have been selected to attend the Landsat Data Continuity Mission launch NASA Social on Feb. 10-11, 2013, at Vandenberg Air Force Base in Lompoc, Calif.

The two-day event will provide you the opportunity to tour NASA facilities at Vandenberg, meet and interact with engineers, technicians, and other team members from NASA’s Landsat mission. You will also get a very rare behind-the-scenes tour of Vandenberg Air Force Base, learn about NASA’s Launch Services Program and how they match spacecraft with rockets, view and take photographs of the LDCM rocket and launch pad, meet fellow Landsat and space enthusiasts who are active on social media and members of NASA’s social media teams, and hopefully view the launch of LDCM, which is scheduled to lift off aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket between 10 – 10:48 a.m. PST on Feb. 11.

Please read this entire email carefully for instructions on securing your spot and planning your attendance.

Launch date

Launching into space is a very complex business. Hundreds of different factors can cause a scheduled launch date to change numerous times. If the launch date moves or is delayed, NASA will make every attempt to adjust the NASA Social schedule accordingly to coincide with the launch and will notify you about this change. NASA Social attendees are responsible for any additional costs they incur related to any launch delay. Please keep these things in mind as you book airline tickets, reserve rental cars and hotels and make other travel plans; we strongly encourage you to make travel arrangements that are refundable/flexible.

Follow us online

Please follow NASA on Twitter (@NASA, @NASASocial, @NASAGoddard, @30thSpaceWing, @NASA_Landsat), Facebook (NASA, NASA Goddard and Vandenberg Air Force Base) or Google+ (NASA, NASA Goddard where we will post updates and reminders about the event. The hashtags for the event are #NASASocial and #LDCM. See http://www.nasa.gov/connect for all of the ways you can connect with NASA.

Updates and information about the event will be shared on Twitter via @NASASocial and via posts to Facebook and Google+.

Please note: Your NASA Social confirmation and registration does not qualify you for social media or news media credentials at Vandenberg Air Force Base now or in the future.

Agenda

We will be sending you more e-mails soon with additional information. Please send us an email at hq-social@nasa.gov or contact either of us listed below as soon as possible if at any time you decide not to or are unable to attend, as we have a waitlist for this event.

We have limited capacity for the event and cannot accommodate additional guests who were not selected via this registration process.

We look forward to seeing you on Feb. 10-11!

I’m going to a launch!!!  I did not expect to get selected for this.

Moral of the story:  If you see anything on the NASA Social site that you could reasonably do, by all means, go for it!
